Ilaria Lepore is a contemporary fashion designer based in London since 2012.
The designer's interactions with the outer edges of society have led her to reverse commonly accepted notions of beauty and gender. Androgynous code allow the designer to express a minimal, sartorial and provocative vision.
The fashion designer's experiences and investigation of clichéd human landscape has culminated in a new visual language. Each collection evokes a daring metamorphosis and challenges mainstream fashion channels. Bodies become the designer' statement, a reaction against the lack of consciousness in the fashion industry of today.
JUST AN ILLUSION
Seeing Is Not Believing.
Fashion perfectly realises the Spirit of Society.
Money totally permeates reality. In some respects it may free the individual while simultaneously dissolving individuality - homogenizing.
The Good becomes a pure signal, easily achievable by everyone - perfect and dead. Crystallised, it becomes immediately replaceable with the next required fashion, the new 'perfect'.
Ilaria Lepore, through an authentic Revolution of Perception develops an anarchic expressive form - subverting aesthetical conditioning and stylistic cliches. She attempts to clawback sartorial codes using precious fabrics as bouclé wool and leather...contaminating use of technical fabrics.
Her minimalist and conceptual works stand out for sharp cuts and an almost exclusive use of black. Thick fabrics mix with light, geometric shapes envelope, imagination is set free to guess the silhouette of the wearer. A unisex vision.
The resulting outlines introduce a new geography of the body with undefined contour, identity and proportions.
In strong contrast with the consumer society’s dogmas, Ilaria’s styles will not wane swiftly, as it opposes common sense, mediocrity, the superficial; rather, her forms enhance interiority - emphasising inner beauty rather than mere appearance...
